My Design Process
I have an adaptive approach and would utilize the method that works best for the project and organization. Some widely used processes are:
ADDIE
SAM
Kirkpatrick Model
ADDIE, as seen in the picture, is a common framework for project work. SAM stands for Successive Approximation Model and is the rapid prototype version of ADDIE. It is used for when multiple iterations of the design and development phases are needed. The Kirkpatrick Model is used to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of training and programs on four levels: Reaction, Learning, Behavioral Change, Results. There are various ways to assess each level based on desired outcomes.
In a typical team based project with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders, I would kick off the process by collaborating with all parties to determine the learning objectives, outcomes, and goals. These will guide how learning can be assessed throughout the experience and its overall effectiveness. It's important to manage scope creep from the very beginning in the analysis stage by making sure all parties are on the same page.
The data from analysis would be used to inform design decisions. Next, I would create a draft that documents how content will be presented. This could be a design document, storyboard, or wireframe depending on the end product or deliverable. During development, I would provide prototypes, updates, and apply feedback in an iterative process until the product meets expectations.
